Criminology is a diverse and fascinating subject, and the transferrable skills that you develop during your time with us will open many doors.
Throughout your degree, we will highlight the skills and knowledge you will gain on each course unit to help you identify the type of career you might be most suited to.
What do Criminology graduates do?

- criminal justice system-related professions;
- police and offender management (eg Probation Service);
- community justice;
- youth justice;
- national intelligence and security agencies;
- charity and voluntary sector organisations (including those involved in supporting those experiencing domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse, and youth offending);
- research organisations;
- central and local government;
- teaching;
- further study or training.
What support can I get?
There is a range of support available throughout your undergraduate and postgraduate degree:
- Criminology and Criminal Justice in Action - a programme featuring 'Criminology Question Time', with panellists from the police, probation, prison, youth justice and the third sector;
- access to sessions on volunteering, internships and work experience;
- job application writing and learning interview techniques;
- you may gain The Manchester Leadership Programme award by taking part in accredited voluntary work;
- take advantage of our award-winning Careers Service opportunities, including access to jobs, fairs and events, careers guidance, mentoring and guides on applications;
- attend the various employer's on-campus presentations, talks and workshops to gain insight, useful contacts and advice.
