Dima Basma - PhD student at the School of Law, The University of Manchester
Dima Basma did her first degree and master’s at Manchester and decided to stay on for a postgraduate research programme.

Why did you choose to complete your research degree at Manchester?

Completing both my undergraduate and my master’s degree at The University of Manchester was rewarding at both an academic level and a social level. So the decision to enrol in a postgraduate research programme at the same university was easy.

What’s your current research about? Why did you choose this topic?

I currently conduct research in the area of trademark law and fashion. The choice of topic was a result of both my personal interest in the topic and the significant changes that have occurred in European trademark law over the past decade.

What do you most enjoy about studying here?

At the School of Law you learn to widen your social circle, express your ideas freely, exchange knowledge and gradually build the foundations for your future career. All this makes studying at Manchester truly enjoyable.

Have you been involved in any of the Law School’s societies and events?

I have been involved in several societies at the University including Student of Free Enterprise (SIFE) and The University of Manchester Arab society.

What are your plans after graduation?

I plan to apply for jobs in the field of academia.

What advice would you give to new research students at the Law School?

This may be your last opportunity to live your life as a student! Work hard, party hard and make as many friends as you possibly can. But please don't leave it all till the last minute.
