Why did you choose this course?
The University of Manchester has a track record of providing quality education and producing motivated, hard-working intellectuals.
It is one of the best universities in the North West of England, and falls within the top 100 universities in the world.
The Law School has been home to some of the prominent leaders of today and the staff also came highly recommended.
What do you most enjoy about studying here?
I have spent most of my life in Manchester, but the vibrancy of the city, and especially the University, always amazes me. There is always so much to do, and so many new things to learn.
At the Law School, the quality and breadth of teaching I have experienced has been brilliant; I have been exposed to many new and different styles of learning, thinking, and analysing, which have inspired me to look at information in new ways.
What has been the highlight of your course so far?
I have found the enthusiasm and openness of the staff in the postgraduate department, especially those teaching International Law, a great help.
I am increasingly appreciative of academics that, through their own passion for the law and teaching, make lectures and seminars fascinating and encourage students to pursue their own areas of interest.
Have you been involved in any societies and events?
I have attended the Manchester International Law Centre’s lectures on various areas of international law, including the Melland Schill Lecture Series. They are really interesting with high-quality speakers as well as guests in attendance.
What are your plans after graduation? How do you feel studying at Manchester has prepared you for this?
I intend to gain more practical experience in the legal field, before pursuing a career in academia. I believe studying at Manchester has equipped me with the practical skill, focus and knowledge needed to succeed in the ever-expanding field of international law.
It has also developed the critical thought and academic curiosity necessary to ask the questions that really matter in the vast and complex area of international law. I feel well-equipped to construct and deconstruct ideas, arguments, and thoughts effectively when dealing with multi-faceted global issues.
What advice would you give to new Law students at Manchester?
You will be in very capable hands in the postgraduate law department.
The quality of teaching is impressive, and the staff are very open, involved, and crucially, experts in the fields that they teach.
This reassurance is invaluable, because it allows new students the opportunity to freely explore and pursue their interests knowing that they have the full support they need.
The teaching environment allows motivated students to excel, and build strong foundations for their future careers, so hard work and commitment are key to performing well.
I would advise students to really make the most of the staff and facilities the Law School has to offer during their time there. Master’s courses, though highly interesting, are intensive and move at a fast pace. Overall, the experience is enormously worthwhile, and I would definitely recommend that new students enjoy it as much as they can in the short time they are at the Law School.
