Why did you choose this course at The University of Manchester Law School?

Narom Lue with two friends in a cafe
Narom Lue (centre) moved to Manchester from Thailand to study for his master's in International Business and Commercial Law.

I chose Manchester because it is known as one of the best Law Schools in the world and offers a variety of course units with an international perspective.

Students have the chance to choose both core and optional units, which is of great benefit; this allows students to figure out what they really want to learn and become specialists in the areas that interest them most.

What do you most enjoy about studying here?

I've made many good friends in Manchester. Both the city and the University are very multicultural with people from many different countries and diverse backgrounds.

Connecting with interesting new people, and having shared experiences with them, has really helped me settle in.

What has been the highlight of your course so far?

The highlight of my course so far has been my seminar classes. In Thailand, we have totally different styles of teaching. Law at Manchester has both lecturers and seminars. In seminars, students engage in the class in terms of exchanging opinions and perspectives in small groups, while also answering questions.

Students are always encouraged to read more around the subject areas. I review my knowledge and participate in further research before attending seminars. This allows me to share my ideas and participate in discussions.

The academics are excellent. They are very kind and full of knowledge. They also help students by breaking up the challenging topics, so that the information is easy to digest.

What aspects of your learning experience do you think will help in pursuing your future career?

I have learnt a lot about international business and commercial Law. This will help me in my future career because I will have gained the skills and knowledge to set me apart from other graduates.

I have made good connections with academics that are specialists in their subject area. This has inspired me to develop my academic study further.

What has helped you feel at home?

Manchester is a great city for international students. The city has everything you could need, from good restaurants to cinemas and theatres, which has helped me feel at home.
