Why did you choose this course at The University of Manchester Law School?

I chose to study law as I believe it will provide me with the opportunity and platform to make a difference, big or small, in the lives of people in need.

I believe that the law exists to protect, and as such, I was inspired to use the legal skills I would acquire to bring protection to those who need it.

Moreover, I also find the relevance of the law in every aspect of our lives interesting and I find studying the law stimulating, as it challenges the way you think and how you look at many different things.  

What do you most enjoy about studying here?

I enjoy how, beyond just learning what the law is, we are encouraged to challenge and question whether the law as it is, is correct.

We are challenged to not just accept things as they are, but to always strive for ways to improve the law, and I think that that is important in moving forward. 

Have you been involved in any of the Law societies and events?

I am currently involved with the newly established Miscarriages of Justice Centre.

What are your plans after graduation, and how do you feel studying at Manchester has prepared you?

I plan to study the BPTC. After that, I plan to return back to Malaysia and practice law there, hopefully playing a part in addressing the plethora of injustices that happen every day.

I feel that studying in Manchester has given me many opportunities that I would not have gotten in studying in Malaysia, such as the breadth of subjects to choose from as well as the many opportunities for hands-on experience.

I also feel that studying in Manchester has helped me grow personally as an individual, learning many life skills and to be independent in being away from home.

What advice would you give to new Law students at Manchester?

If you are new to law, I would advise you to pinpoint why you are studying law and hold on to that. There are many times where it can get very stressful and overwhelming, so it is important to have your own motivating reason to keep you going on the days where you want to give up.

Also, make the most of the many opportunities that the Law School provides!
