Law LLB

Prasanth Selvam - Law student
Prasanth Selvam (Singapore) was delighted with the quality of student support – as well as teaching.

Why did you choose this course?

There are certain schools outside Singapore that allow graduates to qualify for the Singapore bar. The University of Manchester was one of them. I chose Manchester because it was not in London. That was one of my primary considerations. The cost of living in London is very high so Manchester was a more affordable option – an ideal choice for me.

What do you most enjoy about studying here?

The lecturers are very approachable and willing to accommodate any requests that we may have. The administrative team, including the Student Support, is also very supportive and go the extra mile to help us with any problems or issues that we may encounter. The city of Manchester is also a great place to be. There is a very vibrant lifestyle and the people are very friendly.

What has been the highlight of your course so far?

There was an employment session organised by the school and there were a whole variety of employers who had been invited to present. It made me realise that there are countless opportunities for a law graduate and that they are not confined to practicing law.

Have you been involved in any societies and events?

I am involved with the Law Society in that I attend their post exam parties. They are truly amazing.

What are your plans after graduation? How do you feel studying at Manchester has prepared you for this?

I intend on going back to Singapore and practice law there. The lessons taught here are imparted in a highly practical manner. I can, therefore, extrapolate easily the skills I need to practice law in Singapore.

What advice would you give to new Law students at Manchester?

I would encourage them to take full advantage of the countless facilities that the University provides for its students.
