Institute of Medicine, Law and Bioethics
IMLAB is a collaboration between the Universities of Liverpool and Manchester with support from the North West Regional Health Authority. The Institute was launched in 1996. Professors Margaret Brazier, John Harris and Søren Holm are Directors of the Institute.
IMLAB brings together a variety of research interests in the fields of medicine, law and bioethics and provides a focus for research and education where medical ethics and the law coincide. Members include distinguished academic lawyers, clinicians, moral philosophers and theologians.
IMLAB aims to:
- Consolidate the Institute's national and international profile as an authoritative body on medico-legal and bioethical issues
- Encourage multidisciplinary research across the collaborating Universities and with external partners
- Establish and promote programmes of research and education to enhance the quality and effectiveness of healthcare delivery throughout the UK, through the promotion of safe, ethical and cost-effective practice.
