Introduction to our Centre

Introduction

The Centre for Social Ethics and Policy (CSEP) is one of Europe's leading institutions, undertaking research and teaching courses in bioethics and biolaw.

The Centre which can fairly claim to be the leading one of its kind in Europe, was founded in 1986 and is directed by Margaret Brazier and Soren Holm and co-directed by John Harris.

Other members of the School who also work within the Centre include Rebecca Bennett, Iain Brassington, John Coggon, Sarah Devaney, Charles Erin, Simona Giordano, David Gurnham, Matti Hayry, Kirsty Keywood, Muireann Quigley and Catherine Stanton.

May 2012: Symposium on ‘Regulating Bodies & Influencing Health: Nudges, Incentives and Public Policy’ on 26th June 2012 in Rotterdam.

 

Medical Law ReviewMay 2012: Professor Margot Brazier has been awarded a Medal of Honour for her contribution to the University. The Medal of Honour is the highest non-degree award bestowed by the University. The award is intended to honour individuals who have made an exceptional and sustained contribution to the work of the University and/or the city of Manchester and/or the North West region.

April 2012: Special Issue of Medical Law Review in honour of Professor Margaret Brazier of the Centre for Social Ethics and Policy

 

Public Seminars

We run seminar series each semester usually at 2-4pm on Wednesdays. These seminars are open to anyone to attend. We will publish a new programme early in September 2012.

The Institute for Science, Ethics and Innovation

We have strong links with colleagues in the Insitute of Science, Ethics and Innovation in the Faculty of Life Sciences. Professor John Harris from the Institute was a founder of the Centre for Social Ethics and Policy and he continues to be active in our teaching, research and supervison of PhD students.
