Teaching and learning

Fields of research include:
- National, European and international Law
- Socio-legal studies
- Bio-ethics
- Criminology
With an academic staff of around 60, plus a number of temporary lecturers and research fellows, legal research is continuing to expand with new programmes and strands of research.
Study
A research degree involves sustained, in-depth study into a specific topic, which is then written up as a thesis for examination, for the award of either PhD or MPhil.
Research degree students in the School of Law are assigned two supervisors to help guide your research and provide pastoral care.
Academic year
The academic year is divided into two semesters, though as a research postgraduate you will have access to research facilities throughout the year (except when buildings are closed over the Christmas/New Year holiday).
