Why should I do these courses?
You can pick up CPD hours for doing these courses and they will give you a strong grounding in these areas of medical ethics and law. They also allow you opportunities to do further reading in these areas using the suggestions for further reading and the online library resources that are made available to you during your enrolment.
So if you want to know more about medical ethics and law, if you want to get CPD points in this area and you wish to develop your skills in ethical reasoning these courses will provide you with these things.

What do I get when I complete the course?
As a package of CPD courses you do not get a an academic award (diploma etc) when you have completed these courses. However, we do provide you with a certificate of completion that is evidence that you have completed this course successfully and you can use the contents of this course to give further evidence of the training you have recieved. We are in the process of applying for official accreditation from the Royal Colleges of Physicians and Nursing and will update these pages when this process is complete.

Who are these courses aimed at?
These courses are aimed primarily at health care professionals (medics, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, etc) but will also be accessible for anyone who is interested in this area of study.
You do not need a previous background in ethics and law to study on these courses.
What do the quizzes test?
The quizzes test whether you have been paying attention! They simply check you have picked up on the main points that are covered in the courses. You have to get all the questions right but can have unlimited goes at getting them right and there is often helpful feedback if you don't get the answer right the first time.
When can I start these courses?
The Medical Decision-Making course can start at anytime and we will give you access for a whole year.
How much time will these courses take to complete?
The nine courses on the 'Medical Decision- Making: Ethics and Law' package take on average 3-4 hours to complete. To see a breakdown of how long each of the nine courses is expected to take click 'here'. The ethics modules available as part of the Medical Ethics Modular Package will also take round 3-4 hours each.
The courses will point you to suggested further reading if you are interested in following up on the work you have done. You do not have to complete this extra reading to complete the course but if did this extra reading would add to the amount of time you would take on each course.
Do I have to complete all nine courses in the Medical Decision-Making Package if, say, I am not so interested in issues around treating children and adolescents?
If you decide that you only want to complete some of the courses in the 'Medical Decision- Making: Ethics and Law' and their quizzes then let us know and we will organise this for you.
You can choose which courses you wish to take in the Medical Ethics Modular Package
If I finish the course earlier than the 12 months allowed can I get my certificate early?
Yes, just let us know and we can provide you with your certificate if you have completed the required assessments successfully and you can keep your access to the courses and the library resources until your period of registration expires.
If I finish the course early can I pay a reduced fee?
Unfortunately you will have to pay the full fee of £600 for the Medical Decision-Making: Ethics and Law package even if you finish it early. You will still have access to the courses and the library resources until the period of your registration expires.
Can I pay for the Medical Decision Making Package of courses in installments?
Yes. These fees are paid over the first 3 months of the course in 3 payments.
For Full Fees: 1st instalment: £300
2nd Instalment: £150
3rd Instalment : £150
For Alumn (10% discount)i: 1st instalment: £270
2nd Instalment : £135
3rd Instalment : £135
Further packages of these courses will also be able to be paid for in installments in this way.
Do these courses have official accreditation yet?
Yes, the Royal College of Physicians caps the amount of accredited hours it awards to distance learning courses but has awarded us the maximum of 10 hours for the Medical Decision-Making package. You can also claim up to an additional 10 hours personal credits.
The Royal College of Nursing has awarded the Medical Decision-Making package 33 accredited hours.
Health Care Professions Council, Royal College of General Practitioners, The Law Society, etc.
You should check with the CPD guidance for your profession but it should be possible to claim CPD credit for the hours you spend on the course including any extra reading you do as part of these courses (do check with the CPD guidance for your profession though as some restrictions can apply). When completing your CPD profile your certficate of completion of the course and print outs of the course content can be used as supporting evidence.
The 'Medical Decision-Making: Ethics and Law' package should take around 32.5 hours to complete with options for further hours from further reading suggested within the materials.
