Professional biography

I was previously a lecturer at the Multimedia University, Malaysia. Currently, I co-edit the Erasmus Law and Economics Review and am a member of the Asian Law and Economics Association and the European Law and Economics Association.

Together with Giovanni Ramello (Piemonte Orientale) and Shubha Ghosh (SMU), we organise an Annual Workshop on the Law and Economics of Intellectual Property and Information Technology.

I am also affiliated with the Institute for Law, Economy and Global Governance at the University of Manchester. I also act as the Postgraduate Research (Law) Programme Director at the Law School.

Specific research interests

My research interests are law and economics, regulation, copyright law and information technology law (cyberlaw).

Current research projects

I am currently involved in a European Commission project titled Pan-European Energy Networks. In addition, I am working on a few papers in the area of law and economics of copyright.

Teaching

In the 2009/10 academic year, I will lecture in the following courses:

I am also one of the seminar takers for LAWS20011 Equity and Trusts.

Potential postgraduate research students who are keen in law and economics are welcomed to contact me about their application. Ideally, I would expect applicants to have some prior economics and/or mathematics training before commencing their postgraduate research.

I am currently supervising the following Ph.D. students:

  • Hyangmi Jung (co-supervising with Tom Gibbons) on co-production treaties,
  • Kwangkug Kim (co-supervising with Frank Stephen) on competition law and policy in the new economy,
  • Long Long (co-supervising with Frank Stephen) on property rights and governance in virtual worlds.
  • Qi Zheng (as second supervisor) on Carl Schmitt and Chinese constitutionalism.
  • Timothy Umahi (as second supervisor) on patent law and access to essential medicines in Nigeria.
