3 June 2016

The hard work of our Legal Advice Centre’s staff and students has been celebrated with a series of awards and recognitions.

The Legal Advice Centre team

In the last few months, the Centre has won:

  • The national LawWorks and Attorney General prize for the Best New Student Pro Bono Activity for its Dementia Law Clinic. This is the first holistic legal clinic of its kind to provide not just legal, but also nursing, advice as well as activities and communication support for those living with dementia and their carers.

It was also shortlisted for the National Finals of the GB Care Awards in May 2016 and was highly commended at The University of Manchester’s Making a Difference Awards for inspiring communities.

The Centre’s Deputy Director, Neil Allen, said, “We are delighted with the success of the Dementia Law Clinic. Thanks to the partnership we established with the mental health charity, Making Space, we are able to provide a wider range of legal and support services to families and expose students to a more holistic approach to clinical legal education. Particular thanks must go to our administrators, Anne and Hannah, and to our supervising lawyers, without whom none of this would be possible.”
