Our staff and students are making a difference

Staff and students in the School of Law were honoured for their contribution to social responsibility at the University's 2017 Making a Difference Awards.

Dr Jo Deakin and Dr Claire Fox won Highly Commended for their innovative teaching in Criminology and Criminal Justice in Action.  This course enables students to work with criminal justice professionals to develop usable resources that will have real application in third sector organisations. 

Simren Singh, an MPhil student at the University of Manchester was also awarded a Highly Commended for his advocacy for people with learning disabilities and young people with autism.   In addition,he is president of the Student Law and Advocacy Mooting Society, which has benefitted enormously from his leadership.

Neil Allen won the award for the Inspiring Communities.  His work in setting up and running the Dementia Law Clinic for the Legal Advice Centre, as well as his outstanding work with health and social care professionals  was  acknowledged.  A video of his achievements is available on the University's Social Responsibility YouTube Channel:
